Find you and your little ones’ shorts and t-shirts, lather in the sun cream and pop on the sunglasses – the sun’s out and school’s out for summer.
And what better way to spend your days off with the family than with a lazy picnic trip to the park. Dogs, footballs and frisbees welcome too.
What’s more is here at Welton’s Deli we’ve taken the time to piece together the perfect picnic hamper. So you can spend more of your time topping up your tan, and freeing your little ones to let off some steam.
Before you get your blankets packed and the car loaded, pop in to see us. Feast your eyes on five must-have items to make your summer picnic hamper rock.
The summer picnic hamper checklist
1. A selection of home-made neatly sliced sandwiches
After a nice walk, kick of the football and a play in the park, you will have worked up quite the appetite. Now it’s not a picnic without a good medley of sandwiches.
Whether you like a little spice with Brie and chilli jam, you’re happy with ham, or a classic egg mayo, we’ve got your covered.
We also make prawn, tuna, chicken salad and cheese and tomato sandwiches. Fussy eaters well catered for.
2. Home-baked scones smothered with jam and clotted cream
Without getting into the debate about whether it’s jam first and then cream, or cream first and then jam, all we’ll say is you’re in for a treat with one of our home-baked scones.
A generous helping of clotted cream and a smooth coating of fresh fruit jam will give you the sugar boost to tackle afternoon’s play time.
3. Freshly baked individual tartlets
For a pastry fix, a freshly baked tartlet will do the job. Our individual hand-made tartlets are so big they’re great to share too.
We offer roast veg and feta, salmon and leek, cheese and bacon and spinach and feta.
4. Home-made cakes
We’ve even spared a thought for those with an extra sweet tooth. Chocolate, sponge, iced or meringue, choose from a drool-worthy choice of cakes to complete your picnic hamper.
(You can only have a piece if you finish all your sandwiches though!)
5. A bit of bubbly for you (and juice for the kids)
And to wash it all down, we’ve got Prosecco and other bottles of fizz to pop open as you lounge in the summer sun. Fresh fruit juices, colas and lemonades are on hand for thirsty little boys and girls.
Find your space
If you’re staying local, you’ve got the Green, or Great Bowden park (nestled off Station Road), or even a quiet spot watching the boats along the Grand Union Canal.
Further afield, you might like to take your picnic to the Corby boating lake, or to one of the farms in Kettering’s West Lodge Rural Centre or Mini Meadows in Welford.
Kilworth House, the 19th century country house, theatre and gardens, is another beautiful spot for your summer picnic. In its Victorian charm, it’s now very much a place for children to be seen and heard playing to their heart’s content.
Wherever you go, you know if you come to Welton’s, we’ll prepare a picnic hamper the whole family will enjoy. Call in for a chat to see what we can do.
